C-GS board honors 30-year teacher
CLYDE – Clyde-Green Springs Superintendent David Stubblebine and school board members recognized intervention specialist teacher Rachel Gibbs for 30 years of service to the district Monday evening.
She was presented with a retirement plaque and gift. She said her intentions had been to be an Ohio State University Extension agent but she has enjoyed teaching and thanked everyone for their help along the way.
Stubblebine said the district had a server failure Friday, causing the loss of electricity and telephone problems. Service has been restored by DataServ of Westlake, and board members approved the contract with DataServ for network core maintenance services Dec. 1 through Nov. 30 at a cost of $22,257. The new company replaces a company from Michigan and saves money.
Treasurer Joyce DuPont said the school is to be audited soon. She said the district has completed its bond refunding, saving taxpayers $411,000.
She said the public may again purchase Clyde-Green Springs bonds. The staff has finished open enrollment for their health insurance needs.
Joe Letterhos, curriculum director, reported a $1.3 million state ‘Straight A’ grant looks promising for the district. Final results are to be announced Dec. 17. He also said staff members are receiving learning sessions for iPad use in professional development and their application in classes.
Several principals congratulated the football team on winning Friday’s game.
Principal Joe Webb commended the district’s quiz team and the 27 students participating. Their record is eight wins and one loss this year.
Three upcoming occasions include the Toledo Symphony Orchestra performing Dec. 6, the Homecoming basketball game is Jan. 25, and June 29-July 6 has been chosen as no contact week.
In other matters, the board:
Approved the transfer of $673,481.25 for debt retirement and $478,322.50 for the local funding initiative lease purchase from the General Fund for the Dec. 1 payment with the funds provided by earned income tax.
Approved American Fidelity to continue as the district’s Section 125 plan service provider effective Jan. 1, and to provide plan documents, administration guidance, annual re-enrollment and compliance assistance with IRS regulations governing cafeteria plans.
Approved increasing the minimum substitute hourly pay rate for cafeteria, educational, custodial, courier and LRC aides to $8.50 per hour to be in compliance with the state minimum wage.
Approved a Jan. 6 waiver date for a disaster program with more training for teachers, and discussions on bullying and dangers of social media.
Approved staff personnel action.
Approved a resolution to participate in the Ohio School Boards Association Legal Assistance Fund for 2014 and authorized the treasurer to pay $250.
Approved a contract with North Central Ohio Educational Service Center to provide occupational therapy from August 2013 through July 2014 at a rate of $68.41 per hour.
Approved a contract with Baker Bonnigson to auction excess school equipment.
Accepted gifts and donations to the schools.
The board next meets at 6 p.m. Dec. 16.
