Red Cross disaster preparedness Wednesday

American Red Cross of Seneca County is offering a free program to help local families prepare for disasters before they happen. Community disaster preparedness training is set for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Community Center at Highland Park Estates Mobile Home Park, 686 S. Sandusky St.

“Getting yourself and your family prepared for disasters can bring peace of mind during trying times and can help save someone’s life when an emergency occurs,” said Cheryl Wolfe, director of the Seneca County Red Cross. “By showing families to follow three easy steps – get a kit, make a plan and be informed – we help them prepare for emergencies before they happen.”

Red Cross approached the management of Highland Park Estates about doing the program following a fatal fire there Sept. 15.

Wolfe said attendees will learn how to assemble a family emergency kit, how to make plans for evacuation and shelter and how to access information before, during and after a disaster.

Every family who attends is to receive a Red Cross tote bag containing emergency preparedness information and a smoke detector.

The program is free and registration is not required. For more information, visit or call (419) 447-1424.
