Local Habitat chapter prepares for next ‘extreme’ build project
Joe Swora, executive director for Seneca Habitat for Humanity, said a four-bedroom home on Third Avenue, being built for a local partner family, is to be the focus of an “Extreme Build” event Nov. 9.
That event, Swora said, is Seneca Habitat’s second Extreme Build, with the goal of getting a home “under roof, water-tight and lockable” during a 16-hour window of work.
Swora said the previous Extreme Build reached that goal in about 12 hours and was the “best day I’ve ever had at this agency.”
Swora said the assistance of the Home Builders Association and Habitat board member Rich Zeis have been instrumental in the success of the agency’s Extreme Build efforts.
Also, he said, volunteers are vital to Habitat’s success and the involvement of partner families, which is termed sweat equity, is an expectation and a commitment Seneca Habitat “takes seriously.”
Swora said volunteers interested in helping Seneca Habitat for Humanity and its Extreme Build can call (419) 447-4270, visit www.senecahabitat.
