Intern celebration at First Lutheran Church

First Lutheran Church, 300 Melmore St., is to welcome back Pastors Tim and Mary Canniff-Kuhn for a special meal and fellowship 5-7 p.m. Saturday.

Tim was a student intern minister at FLC from Sept. 1, 1985, to Aug. 17, 1986. His wife, Mary, also completed her pastoral training at seminary. They are program directors at Camp Lutheridge, in Arden, N.C.

Tim is a musician and Mary is a storyteller. Together they will share their talents as First Lutheran continues its celebration of its 170th anniversary, highlighting the history of its internship program.

Seminary student interns served the church off and on from 1966 to 1994. The following is a list of First Lutheran’s interns: 1966-1967, Gordon Scullion (also called associate pastor, retired in Defiance); 1979-1980, Mike Hahn (pastor in Saginaw, Mich.); 1980-1981, Bruce Koester (director of ministries, Jacksboro, Tenn.); 1983-1984, Mike Robinson (pastor in Pittsburgh); 1984-1985, Jurgen Riepshoff; 1985-1986, Tim Canniff-Kuhn; 1987-1988, Tracie Bartholomew (recently elected bishop of New Jersey Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America); 1988-1989, Ralph Hill (pastor in Chapin, S.C.); 1989-1990, Maurice Redding (pastor in Chandler, Ariz.); 1990-1991, John Koehl; 1991-1992, Jim Wicker (pastor at Holy Trinity, Toledo); 1992-1993, David and Mary Peters (Mary is a pastor in Atlanta; David served as pastor in Pa.); and 1993-1994, Eric Murray (pastor in Knoxville, Tenn.).
