Carey library seeks renewal
CAREY – The Dorcas Carey Public Library is asking voters to approve a renewal tax levy on the Nov. 5 ballot.
The 1.75-mill levy would generate $152,787 annually for five years to be used for general operating expenses.
Library Director Linda Gatchell said for expenses such as updating technology, updating staff programs, storytime, Mother Goose programs, the Teen Advisory Group, book clubs and more.
“For these programs, we need people,” Gatchell said.
The levy would cost the owner of a $100,000 home about $1 week, Gatchell said.
The library has a circulation of 141,024 items and has about 5,500 patrons.
“The library is a service to the community,” Gatchell said. “It is a great asset, a place to get books, eBooks, register to vote, register for a Golden Buckeye card, and more. It is not just a book place anymore.”
