Speaker to describe

war’s devastation to families

Sponsored by Project Peace and Tiffin Area Pax Christi, Kathy Kelly, international advocate for peace, is to present “Reflections on Warfare in Afghanistan and Gaza” at 7 p.m. Saturday in Elizabeth Schaefer Auditorium, 190 St. Francis Ave.

Admission is free, though an offering is to be collected. The Nobel Peace Prize nominee recently returned from Afghanistan, and she is to share the stories of families she lived with.

Christmas assistance sign-up to begin at The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is to conduct its Christmas sign-up 9 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. Monday through Nov. 8 at 505 E. Market St.

Nov. 1, the office is to be open until 6 p.m. for those who cannot register during the day.

Art auction to benefit TAG

Tiffin Art Guild’s in-the-gallery fundraiser auction, “Off the Wall,” is slated for Nov. 7 at the TAG Gallery, 178 S. Washington St. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the live auction begins at 7.

The pieces for the auction are to go on display at the gallery Thursday. Pre-bids are to be accepted on any of the items during the two weeks prior to the auction.

There will be paintings, watercolors, oils, acrylics, drawings, prints, hand-crafted wooden bowls and sculptures, hand crafted jewelry and more. Michael Strong is to serve as auctioneer. Guests also can enjoy refreshments and beverages.

Regular gallery hours are 1-5 p.m., changing to noon-4 p.m. with the switch to Daylight Savings Time. For more details, visit or call (419) 443-0478.

Vehicle checkups Saturday

Free vehicle inspections are to be performed by automotive technology students at Sentinel Career and Technology Center 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Rural King in Tiffin.

Students are to check tire pressure, suspension and steering, belts and hoses, fluid levels and condition, wiper blades, lights and engine trouble codes. No purchase is required, and no appointments are needed.

Clubs to flip hotcakes

Tiffin Kiwanis and Lions Clubs are teaming to cook breakfast 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday in the Junior Fair Building at the Seneca County Fairgrounds. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs and beverages. The cost is $7 for adults and $4 for students.

A bake sale is planned, too. Proceeds are to be used for the clubs’ charitable projects.

Fearfest returns

SANDUSKY – From now through Oct. 31, Lake Erie Fearfest is to be open at Ghostly Manor Thrill Center, 3319 Milan Road, Sandusky. Five new haunts have been added.

The hours are 7:30-11:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 7:30-9:30 p.m. Sunday and Halloween night.
