Early-morning rollover claims life of Ind. man

MELMORE – An Indiana man was killed in a single-vehicle rollover accident north of Melmore early Thursday morning.

According to State Highway Patrol, Patrick Lair, 61, of Indianapolis, was driving a 2003 Ford Mustang southbound on SR 67. The vehicle went off the left side of the road and struck a ditch.

“(It) rolled over several times (and) came to rest,” said Lt. Dean Laubacher of the Fremont post of State Highway Patrol.

The car came to rest in the front yard at 6085 S. SR 67, and a resident reported the accident after hearing it.

Lair, the car’s only occupant, was wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.The vehicle’s speed and whether alcohol was involved in the crash were under investigation Thursday, according to State Highway Patrol.

The accident in Eden Township occurred at 2:45 a.m. Thursday. Personnel from Sycamore fire and EMS, Seneca County Sheriff’s Office and State Highway Patrol responded to the crash.

Chief Bryan Clouse of Sycamore Volunteer Fire Department said Life Flight was on standby but never was summoned to the scene.

“(We) called it off,” he said.
