Tiffin Police Department warns of phone scam
Tiffin police are warning residents of a recent phone scam.
Officer Doug Skornicka of the Tiffin Police Department said a couple of Tiffin residents have reported receiving phone calls from a company claiming they needed money to be wired for outstanding debts. If the money isn’t wired, an arrest warrant would be issued for the person called, the caller said. Skornicka said one of the callers said they were from a company called JMF Processing.
The scammers also had the victim’s personal information, including social security number and work phone number, he said.
Skornicka said if anyone receives a similar call, they should contact their collection agency directly and verify the call. He said police would never arrest anyone for outstanding debt.
“Do not wire any money and don’t succumb to the scam,” he said.
