Fostoria schools finances improve; still in red

FOSTORIA – Fostoria Board of Education Treasurer Norm Elchert give a rough draft of the district’s finances Monday evening, with projected funding showing improvement over last year.

While still waiting for the final amount Fostoria is to receive from the state, Elchert highlighted the total revenue may be an increase of 1.72 percent over the last fiscal year, which ended June 30. So far, expenditures have dropped by nearly $1 million, but still are greater than the revenue.

In other news, Andrew Sprang discussed the state diagnostic of Fostoria as a way to provide description of the strength and weaknesses across the district in order to increase student achievement. This is to help bring in a new curriculum to meet the state’s standards and ways to help improve achievments for students.

In other matters, the board:

Approved the revised 2013-2014 school calendar. The revisions include Back to School Bash, Aug. 8; open house K-12, Aug. 13; parent/teacher conferences, Oct. 22 and 24; parent/teacher conferences, March 24 and 25; last day of classes, May 23; and Teacher Report Day, May 27.

Approved the employment of Courtney Hall, junior high volleyball coach.

Approved the employment of Tecky Rusk, junior high cheer adviser.

Approved the resignation of three personnel.
