7 thrown from boat near Put-in-Bay
A 17-foot boat capsized Tuesday night near Put-in-Bay, throwing seven people into the water.
Jillian Lamb, command center chief for the U.S. Coast Guard, said the seven-person boat capsized after passengers shifted to one side of the boat as water came up onto the other side.
A distress call issued by the U.S. Coast Guard was overheard by a good Samaritan on a boat, who rescued them, Lamb said.
Passengers were transported to Jet Express where one was taken for medical care for chest pains, Lamb said. No one was seriously injured, she said.
Lamb said the passengers’ names were not available Wednesday evening.
Lamb said the operator of the boat did what he was supposed to do after it capsized. He remained calm, made sure everyone had life jackets on and had everyone stay in a group.
“It made it easy to recover all seven of them,” she said.
