Cannon fire to mark fair start

Agricultural Society members learned the 171st Seneca County Fair is to again open with a bang. The cannon is set to go off near the front gate at 8 a.m. Monday of fair week. The theme this year is “Dreams come true at the Seneca County Fair.”

Jim Roberts approached the board and received approval for Roberts’ ATM to place an ATM machine at the fair during fair week. He also enquired about any changes of venue for the veterans’ display.

The flea market is at the fairgrounds this Saturday and Sunday.

In other action, the board:

Approved the financial report that found $37,555.79 in all accounts as of May 31.

Heard the fair board audit found no exceptions.

Netted $160 at the Bob Evans fundraiser.

Discussed the mixed martial arts presentation June 22.

Set June 22 as the day to cut down eight trees.

Approved Clouse Electric to replace two poles and excavating and laying lines for six 30-amp outlets at the livestock camping sites for $5,010.

Heard SCS Gearbox donated $1,000 toward the tractor pull.

Approved the purchase and transporting of 300 feet of concrete barriers for the grandstand area.

Approved 2014 flea market dates.

Heard the fair board is sponsoring a gun raffle Aug. 24-25, with tickets to be sold at flea markets.

Approved the Horse Association pouring concrete at the bleacher shelter.

Learned new rules and regulations regarding livestock from junior fair coordinator Val Hohman.

Heard Ohio State Extension agent Ann Golden report 101 kids attended 4-H Club camp on Kelley’s Island.

The board is to meet at 7:30 p.m.
