Police receive report of attempted child abduction

FOSTORIA – Fostoria Police Department received a report of an attempted child abduction on South Town Street, near the railroad crossing, this morning.

According to a release, a grandmother walking with her 4-year-old grandson saw a white van with no windows stop. A black man got out of the vehicle and approached her grandson and tried grabbing him. The grandmother grabbed onto her grandson and started kicking the man to get him to let go of the boy, it states.

The man let go and got back into his vehicle, speeding off southbound toward the south end of town. A second witness reported the vehicle turned southbound on Columbus Avenue toward Lytle Street, according to the release.

The release describes the van as a white older model with no windows; it possibly was a Ford full-size van. The man was described as a black man with a thin build, about 6 feet tall and in his mid 20s. He has short hair or is bald, is clean-shaven and was wearing faded blue jeans with a rip across the left knee, a heather gray T-shirt and black tennis shoes.
