Noble gets performance distinction

Noble 4-5 Elementary School received a High Performing Schools of Honor award for the 2011-12 school year.

The honor, through the Ohio Department of Education’s Schools of Honor program, cited 92 Ohio schools as either a high performing Schools or high progress. Only two schools received both.

The High Performing Schools honor, over the past five years, has had a 90 percent or better average proficiency for combined reading and mathematics along with a 90 percent or better graduation rate.

“(This honor) reflects the hard work, dedication and determination of the Noble staff, students and parents,” Noble Principal Mike Steyer said. “We were thrilled to receive the news, and it just adds the affirmation of the hard work on top of the School of Promise honor and the excellence with distinction rating.”

The criteria to be honored includes 75 percent or more proficiency for subgroups of 30 or more students who are various races, economically disadvantaged, have disabilities or are English language learners, according to a press release from the state education department.

“With the current changes, it has been different, but we hope to continue to be rated excellent and recognized statewide for our achievements,” Steyer said. “There has been a better collaboration among grade level teachers and all are working together as a team. The teachers can concentrate on specific skills and together work together to capitalize on each other’s strengths and focus on the needs of the students.”
