Child injured in crash on SR 53
A child sustained a minor injury in a single-vehicle accident in Seneca Township Monday evening.
Trooper Justin Nowak of Seneca County Sheriff’s Office said Ryan Lockhart, 23, of Carey, was driving a 2012 Dodge Journey southbound on SR 53 when the vehicle went off the east side of the road and struck a utility pole.
Nowak said one of the two children in the vehicle sustained a minor injury and was taken to Mercy Tiffin Hospital. The child’s name was not available at the scene. No one else was injured, and everyone in the vehicle was properly restrained, Nowak said.
Lockhart was cited with failure to control.
“(He was) claiming he fell asleep,” Nowak said.
Personnel from American Electric Power, McCutchenville Fire Department, the county’s Echo unit, New Riegel EMS and Seneca County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. The accident was reported at 6:35 p.m., a sheriff’s office spokeswoman said.
Traffic on SR 53 was blocked while rescue crews worked at the scene.
