School board considers coach positions

SYCAMORE – While one key opening was filled, several coaching openings were announced at the Mohawk school board meeting Monday evening.

Elementary math teacher Nelle Nutter was approved for a three-year contract as elementary principal. She had filled in as interim principal when then-principal Brett Graham was on military deployment and has 14 years with the district.

Vacant coaching positions for boys and girls varsity basketball as well as cheerleading coaches have been advertised statewide. The application deadline was set at April 24.

Girls basketball coach Josh Fortney left his position for personal reasons while boys basketball coach John Arnold left after accepting a promotion at Marathon. Volleyball coach Eric Hoover will not return to that position after the board voted down a one-year supplemental contract.

Erik Baker will continue as head football coach and athletic director.

Cheerleading coach Olivia Fritz will be relocating with her husband who is accepting a military transfer.

The former Mohawk high school, now the Mohawk Community Investors community center, is being considered for a partial renovation. Quotes for approximately $22,000 have been received for electrical, painting and ceiling work for an office space located within that may house a T-shirt business.

The board accepted a bid for a new truck from Truck Sales and Service for $71,000.

Supplemental contracts were approved for Troy Keller, assistant baseball coach; Brock Cleveland, cross country coach; Brent Konkle, assistant athletic director; Dave Myers, boys golf coach; and Greg Coffman, girls golf coach; all for a period of one year.
