Fostoria mayor to tour facility
FOSTORIA – Fostoria Mayor Eric Keckler reported to council at Tuesday night’s council meeting that he is to tour SMI Crankshaft on East Sandusky Street, formerly known as Norton Manufacturing, in a continued effort to formulate the job market and employment opportunities in the area.
A job fair May 13 at Tiffin University’s Heminger Center also has caught the eye of Keckler, who has been speaking with U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Urbana) and Seneca County commissioners regarding the event.
Law Director Tim Hoover spoke about a new phone scam. Some residents have received telephone calls saying they may be not have to be on the primary ballot in the spring but still be able to run for public office in the fall. He advised anyone wishing to run for office in the future to fulfill any procedures necessary to get their names on the ballot. Feb. 6 was the deadline for getting names on the ballot this spring, Hoover said, adding write-in candidates may not appear on the full ballot this fall.
The city is planning on constructing two settling tanks at the wastewater treatment facility to improve the treatment process. A chance for public comment is set 15 minutes before the April 16 meeting. The $4.5 million dollar project is expected to be funded through the Ohio EPA’s Division of Environmental and Financial Assistance.
Council passed ordinances, including:
Renewal of property tax exemptions for POET and Krogers based on recommendation of Tax Incentive Review Council.
Allowing May 10 public auction of vehicles and equipment deemed outdated or no longer needed.
Allowing Keckler to contract with ODOT for resurfacing US 23 from SR 12 to South Union Street.
Restructuring sewer rates for properties with zero water usage to go down about 38 percent.
There was the first reading of an ordinance to create a handicapped parking space at 237 E. Crocker St. but not allowing handicapped bus parking.
Council went into executive session to discuss collective bargaining strategies and personnel with no action taken.
Council is to meet at 7:30 pm April 16 at the municipal building.
