Tax program tops New Riegel meeting
NEW RIEGEL – Regional Income Tax Agency representative Chuck Hawk addressed New Riegel Village Council members Tuesday night, explaining the services it provides. Besides collecting a municipality’s income tax, it does the billing and makes sure everyone is in compliance. It identifies delinquent filers, may set up payment plans and represents the village in small claims court proceedings.
Individuals and businesses may file online and filers may have automatic calculations done when entering personal information online.
New Riegel is considering participation beginning January 2014.
Street worker Jerry Faeth submitted the price of purchasing paint and painting curbs and crosswalks by the village along with the estimate from Sealed and Striped for the project. No decision was reached.
After some discussion, a vote on whether the village should purchase a mower and mow themselves or hire out jobs was delayed as there were conflicts of interest with both options. A special meeting was set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Faeth reported the arrival of the village’s new 10-foot sign posts. He stated he had used nearly 1 1/2 tons of cold patch to repair potholes.
Fiscal officer Jackie Honaker presented the financial report. She said TWC is offering the village a cost savings for service.
Deirdre Bakies said Jeff Finn with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is to begin the park project as weather permits. Members discussed spraying the fire pond themselves instead of contracting with Aqua Doc.
The meeting moved into executive session for discussion of personnel.
