Man sentenced for sex crimes

A Fostoria man was sentenced to a total of 11 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to two counts of rape, one count of kidnapping and one count of sexual battery Wednesday.

Jennings W. Matthews, 39, who was indicted on the charges last month, also was sentenced by Seneca County Common Pleas Court Judge Steven Shuff to register as a tier III sex offender. The classification mandates lifetime reporting and notification requirements, according to a release from the Seneca County Prosecutor’s Office.

Matthews was arrested in January after a woman reported her 16-year-old daughter was being inappropriately touched.

“Officer Ely of the Fostoria Police Department handled the investigation in a very professional manner. His efforts have insured that the victim received some sense of justice in this matter and has protected the people of Fostoria and Seneca County,” Seneca County Prosecutor Derek DeVine said in the release.

Matthews was represented in court by Fostoria attorney Jonathan Stotzer, according to the release.
