Commissioners talk job fair
Seneca County commissioners gave an update on the upcoming Seneca County job fair at a meeting Thursday morning.
Commissioner Fred Zoeller said the commissioners have been working with U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, Seneca Industrial and Economic Development Corp., Seneca County Department of Job and Family Services, Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Services and others to put together a job fair in late May or early June.
“Behind the scenes, there are roughly 400 jobs available in Seneca County right now that various area employers are looking to fill,” he said. “This is a great opportunity that we can connect area employers with perspective employees.”
Zoeller said the fair is still in the “development stage” but he said Tiffin University has been contacted about hosting the fair at Heminger Center.
He said area businesses are “very receptive” to the idea.
Zoeller said he also would like to have a presentation to educate the public on the importance of passing drug tests.
He said failed drug tests is a big problem for businesses trying to find workers.
In other business, the commissioners read a proclamation observing March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.
“We appreciate our community’s support for Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month,” said Cynthia Morrison of Seneca County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
In new business, the board approved:
A resolution appointing Commissioner Jeff Wagner to the unexpired term of Ben Nutter to represent commissioners on the District Public Works Integrating Committee for Ohio Public Works Commission District 16.
A resolution amending the contract with M&B Asphalt for the Community Development Block Grant FY 11 Bettsville Street Improvement Project to be paid with CDBG FY 11 funds.
A resolution authorizing a 2013 software support agreement with MacDonald Friedberg Carr and Dixon on behalf of the Seneca County clerk of courts.
A resolution authorizing disposal of unfit county-owned property a 2005 Ford Freestar – on behalf of the Job and Family Services.
A resolution authorizing the purchase of a 2013 Dodge Avenger through the Ohio Department of Administrative Services cooperative purchasing program from local vendor in lieu of bidding on behalf of the Seneca County Department of Job and Family Services.
