Commissioners talk job fair

Seneca County commissioners gave an update on the upcoming Seneca County job fair at a meeting Thursday morning.

Commissioner Fred Zoeller said the commissioners have been working with U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, Seneca Industrial and Economic Development Corp., Seneca County Department of Job and Family Services, Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Services and others to put together a job fair in late May or early June.

“Behind the scenes, there are roughly 400 jobs available in Seneca County right now that various area employers are looking to fill,” he said. “This is a great opportunity that we can connect area employers with perspective employees.”

Zoeller said the fair is still in the “development stage” but he said Tiffin University has been contacted about hosting the fair at Heminger Center.

He said area businesses are “very receptive” to the idea.

Zoeller said he also would like to have a presentation to educate the public on the importance of passing drug tests.

He said failed drug tests is a big problem for businesses trying to find workers.

In other business, the commissioners read a proclamation observing March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.

“We appreciate our community’s support for Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month,” said Cynthia Morrison of Seneca County Board of Developmental Disabilities.

In new business, the board approved:
