Commissioners discuss CDBG funds
The Seneca County Board of Commissioners discussed grant applications that are due next month at its first “traveling” meeting, which took place at Fostoria’s Municipal Building Tuesday night.
Community Development Block Grant applications are due April 17, said Jeff Wagner, president of the board.
The county is to apply for CDBG funds to repair parking lots at the County Services Building and the Department of Job and Family Services building.
Wagner said the county is expected to receive about $88,000 in CDBG funding.
He also gave an update after attending a Health Insurance Advisory Committee meeting.
He said with the new health care law, there is to be a re-insurance tax in 2014. The tax is to charge $63 per person on a policy.
He said there also is to be a 2.5 percent premium tax.
“This health care reform definitely wasn’t free,” Wagner said.
Commissioners also gave another update on the job fair set for May 13 at Tiffin University’s Heminger Center.
Commissioner Fred Zoeller said chambers of commerce
and other economic development organizations are reaching out to employers including manufacturing, retail, medical and others. He said the job fair is to require a dress code.
Commissioners are to have their next quarterly traveling meeting in June, which Wagner said is likely to be in Attica.
“It gives people a chance to experience a commissioners’ meeting that might not normally, and have some input as well, as we go through this process,” Wagner said.
Fostoria Mayor Eric Keckler said he appreciates the attention commissioners are giving to Fostoria, especially in economic development.
In new business, the board approved of:
An appropriation adjustment of $20,000 within the Maintenance and Repair Fund.
