Tiffin man deemed fit to stand trial

A competency examination has declared a Tiffin man competent to stand trial for charges accusing him of having sexual conduct with minors.

According to court documents, Gregory R. Simpkins, 19, was found competent to stand trial last week in Seneca County Common Pleas Court Judge Steve Shuff’s courtroom.

Simpkins was indicted on three counts of rape and two counts of gross sexual imposition last year for allegedly having sexual conduct with underage students on a school bus in Seneca County. The alleged victims were 11 years old and 12 years old, according to his indictment.

During the hearing last week, Simpkins pleaded not guilty to the charges. He also was given a court-appointed attorney.
