Deputy: Fostoria man shot self

A Fostoria man died Tuesday from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Detective Sgt. Jason Seem of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office said Jason LeBay, 36, died Tuesday afternoon at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center where he was transported Monday evening.

Seem said LeBay and his girlfriend were at Findlay reservoir 2 when a deputy went to check on the pair around 8:15 p.m. When the deputy went back to his cruiser to check the IDs of LeBay and his girlfriend, LeBay shot himself in the head.

He was transported to Blanchard Valley Hospital and then to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Seem said.

Law enforcement is awaiting autopsy results to officially rule Lebay’s death a suicide, Seem said.

A bench warrant out of Seneca County Common Pleas Court for LeBay was recalled Tuesday, according to court documents.
