Daffodil Days orders due Friday

Flowers and hope will be blooming this March during the American Cancer Society’s annual Daffodil Days fundraiser.

ACS is taking flower orders through Friday, and the event is sponsored by Mercy Tiffin Hospital and Promedica Fostoria Community Hospital, said Deborah Hilborn, income development representative for the American Cancer Society.

The Seneca County event has a goal of $20,000 this year, Hilborn said.

A variety of products are available as part of the fundraiser, including Vase and a Bunch, which features an etched vase with a bunch of daffodils; potted mini daffodils; and the Ray O’ Hope Bear, which features a 10-inch Boyds Bear, designed for ACS, with a flower bunch.

She said ACS hopes businesses and organizations in the community continue to support the group’s cancer-fighting efforts. Two popular options include Project Care, which allows bears to be purchased and delivered anonymously to children in need, and the Gift of Hope program, which brings an uplifting gift of flowers to local cancer patients. Daffodil bunches also can be purchased in larger quantities and handed out to clients, patrons or patients.

Daffodil orders can be placed by calling (888) 227-6446, ext. 5204. Order forms also can be found throughout the community in various businesses. Credit cards are accepted, she said, and checks can be made out to the American Cancer Society.

Orders of $100 or more can be delivered the morning of March 19, and all other orders will be ready for pick-up 11 a.m.-3p.m. March 19 at First Presbyterian Church, 96 S. Monroe St., or Wesley United Methodist Church, 1200 Van Buren St., Fostoria.

Hilborn said street sales also will be offered this year during the week of March 19. Various locations plan to participate, including Walmart in Tiffin and Kmart in Fostoria. Other businesses will be added as the event gets closer, she said.

“Celebrating Daffodil Days is much more than enjoying beautiful flowers; it’s about sharing hope for a world free of cancer,” Hilborn said. “Your contributions to Daffodil Days will allow the American Cancer Society to save more lives and create more birthdays by helping people stay well, helping people get well, by finding cures and by fighting back.”
