Bettsville migrant program discussed

BETTSVILLE – President Nicholas Baker opened the Bettsville Local Board of Education meeting Thursday night.

Superintendent Greg Pettit recommended approval of the 2013 summer migrant program and 2013 migrant image program to be staffed by Jeffrey Lynch as director March 1-Sept. 30, and Michelle Dantuono as assistant director July 26-Aug. 31.

Dean of Students Leigh Ann King reported OTELA, English language testing, was completed this week, with results due within the month. Results may dictate future student services.

King reported a marked increase in student needs this past month related to the college process. To assist, juniors and seniors may attend Higher Education Day March 7 at Heidelberg University. There will be more than 60 colleges, technical schools, and military representatives available.

Treasurer Roger Luhring recommended establishment of School Improvement Sub A, Title I, FY2013 funding, with Pettit supportive of Kaitlin Turpin as School Improvement Sub A, Title I Grant teacher, retroactive to Dec. 13.

The board offered thanks for recent text material donations.

The board is to meet at 5 p.m. March 14.
