Tiffin moves ahead with fire grant
Tiffin City Council Materials and Equipment Committee made a recommendation to have Law Director Brent Howard prepare all the necessary legislation for the city to accept a grant to replace firefighting equipment worth $223,660.
Firefighter and paramedic Kevin Veletean played a large role in helping the department land the grant that is to pay for 95 percent of the costs of 35 new breathing apparatus.
Mayor Aaron Montz thanked Veletean for his contribution to the department and the city.
Fire Chief Bill Ennis said the Federal Emergency Management Assistance to Firefighters Grant is very competitive, and Veletean spent a lot of time and effort in obtaining the grant.
Ennis asked the committee to have all legislation prepared for the next city council meeting, scheduled for Monday. The city is to pay for the remaining 5 percent, $11,771, of the new equipment.
