Fostoria schools to put tax levy on ballot

FOSTORIA – Fostoria Board of Education agreed Monday evening to proceed with the submission of a “substitute” tax levy to the electors.

The $1.8 million levy was certified in late December by the Seneca County Auditor as the necessary amount needed for school operations and it would replace a levy approved by voters in 2009.

The levy will be submitted to voters to appear on the May ballot.

The school board also was shown statistics and information from the recent implementation of the PAX program at Riley Elementary, which promotes good behavior in young students.

The program allows for classrooms to hold “games” that are played throughout the school day, in which students can receive prizes for showing good behavior. Since implementation in October, students have shown improvement.

In other matters, the board:

Approved the employment of Tim Murray as FJSHS assistant principal.

Approved the employment of Dustin Smith as head baseball coach.

Approved the employment of four personnel.

Announced $30,000 had been raised the past year for marching band uniforms.

Approved a three-day field trip for sixth-grade students to attend Camp Wilson in Bellefontaine.
