Fostoria recognizes official’s death
FOSTORIA – Fostoria City Council recognized the death of Councilman Jerry Nelson at its Tuesday night meeting with a resolution of condolence. Nelson was serving a second term in that capacity. His wife Joan was in attendance to receive Nelson’s name plate. Nelson also served on the finance committee. He was active in many community affairs and at his parish, St. Wendelin.

Finance Director Steve Garner informed council that income tax revenues were 7.15 percent higher in 2012 than the year before.
Legislation approved included an ordinance to amend the traffic control map and creating a handicapped parking place at 248 E. Crocker St.
A second reading was made of an ordinance allowing the safety service director to negotiate a merchant services application regarding ZirMed. A second reading also was made of an ordinance allowing the city to negotiate with Perry and Jackson townships and the Bascom Joint Ambulance District regarding emergency medical services.
Council is to meet at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 15 at City Hall.
