Fostoria council chooses replacement

FOSTORIA – Fostoria city council Thursday evening chose a replacement for the at-large seat of Jerry Nelson, who recently died.

In a special meeting held for the selection, Brian Shaver, director of St. Wendelin parish and school, garnered all but two votes in the selection process.

Shaver, originally from Fostoria, and his family returned to Fostoria two years ago from Oregon, Ohio where he served as the director of operations for St. Ursula Academy in Toledo. He was announced as the new St. Wendelin director in July 2011.

Shaver graduated from Fostoria High School in 1995 and Bluffton University. At a previous presentation with the other candidates, Shaver cited his experience in finances, being active in parish finances and serving as treasurer of the St. Wendelin Foundation.

Law Director Timothy Hoover administered the oath for Nelson’s seat, which ends at the end of 2015.

The next regular meeting of council is 7:30 p.m. Feb. 5 at city hall.
