Bloomville Lions host fundraiser

Bloomville Lions Club is to host a baked steak dinner 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 21 at Bloomville Community Center.

The menu features mashed potatoes, green beans, a roll, a beverage and an item from the homemade dessert bar.

Proceeds are to support eyeglasses and other needs of those in Bloomville and Bloom Township.

Allen Eiry sponsoring dinner

Allen Eiry Center is sponsoring a chicken breast dinner 5-6:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at the center, 28 Hopewell Ave.

The meal is to include roasted chicken breast, dressing, corn, creamy mashed potatoes and gravy, homemade applesauce, roll, drink and dessert for $8.50 per person. Eat in or carry out.

Tickets are pre-sale only and can be purchased at Allen Eiry Center 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday through Nov. 1.

Crocheters, knitters group to meet

Tiffin-Seneca Public Library are to host “Sit & Stitch” for knitters and crocheters 1:30-3:30 p.m. today and Oct. 21 and 28 in the Junior Home Room of the library, 77 Jefferson St.

Participants are to bring their own yarn, needles, and knitting or crocheting projects.

TAB to meet

The teen department from Tiffin-Seneca Public Library is to host a Teen Advisory Board meeting 4-5 p.m. Monday and Oct. 29 in the Frost Kalnow Room of the library, 77 Jefferson St.

Teens in grades 6-12 are to meet to help in choosing teen activities at the library, suggest books, movies, music and games for the library to purchase.

Story time for preschoolers

Preschool story time program is to take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Frost Kalnow Room of Tiffin-Seneca Public Library, 77 Jefferson St.

T-SPL to host interactive exhibit

Tiffin-Seneca Public Library is to host “Hidden in Plain Sight” interactive display 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Junior Home Room, 77 Jefferson St., as part of the Foundation Speakers series.

Adults are welcome to visit and see the exhibit from Community Action for Reducing Substance Abuse.

Participants are to inspect a model of a teen’s bedroom to learn common places drugs and alcohol may be hidden and to identify indicators of substance use and high-risk teen behavior.

Couple to share son’s struggle with addiction

As part of Tiffin-Seneca Public Library’s Foundation Speakers Series, the library is to host “Joey’s Story: A Son Lost to Addiction” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Frost Kalnow Room, 77 Jefferson St.

Local couple Lavin and Tom Schwan are to share the story of their son’s struggle with addiction.

Book discussion on Foundation Speaker novel

Tiffin-Seneca Public Library is to host a book discussion at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25 in the Frost Kalnow Room of the library, 77 Jefferson St., on the book “Dreamland: The True Tale of America’s Opiate Epidemic” by Sam Quinones.

The event is part of the library’s Foundation Speakers series.

“Dreamland” is the story of how the unfettered prescribing of pain medications and an influx of black tar heroin led to the opiate epidemic ravaging the United States.

Quinones is to visit Tiffin at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 at Tiffin University’s Marion Center.

T-SPL stages playtime event

The junior department at Tiffin-Seneca Public Library is to host Playtime @ the Library at 10 a.m. Friday in the Frost Kalnow Room of the library, 77 Jefferson St.

The program is hosted with Seneca County’s Ohio Early Intervention. Toys and activities are to be offered to children ages 18 months to five-years old, to interact with their caregivers in an unstructured, creative play.

The program is for children ages 2-6 and features reading, singing and games.

The event is to feature weekly stories for preschoolers ages 2-5 years old.

Aspire classes accepting students

Aspire classes are being offered through the Vanguard-Sentinel Aspire program to help adults improve reading, math or writing skills, to prepare for a high school equivalence test and to get ready for college or an adult certificate training program.

Orientation to the program is required before enrollment into classes. Orientations are to be attended to set goals, complete placement testing and develop an individualized learning plan.

Orientation dates are:

• 9 a.m. or 5 p.m. Oct. 30 and Nov. 1 at the Fremont Vanguard Adult Workforce Development Center.

• 9 a.m. Oct. 22 and 24 at the Ottawa County Resource Centre.

• 5 p.m. Nov. 13 and 15 at the Port Clinton Ida Rupp Public Library.

• 9 a.m. Oct. 23 and 23 or 5 p.m. Oct. 22 and 24 at the OhioMeansJobs-Seneca County.
