Have an ‘American Girl’ experience

The “Becoming an American Girl” program is 2-4 p.m. Monday and July 16 at Garlo Heritage Nature Preserve, 6777 SR 19, Bloomville.

Attendees read a chapter from one of the American Girl Book series and then reenact the activity.

TAG to host student workshops

Tiffin Art Guild is to host Second Saturdays Art Workshops for Students 10 a.m.-noon July 14, 130 S. Washington St.

The class is to focus on making a collage.

Cost is $15 for members per workshop when registered a week prior to the class or $20 per workshop when registered less than a week prior to the class. For non-members, cost is $20 per workshop when registered a week prior to the class and $25 per workshop when registered less than a week prior to the class.

Modern Woodmen donates $1,500 to Elmwood

Modern Woodmen of America recently donated $1,549.25 to Elmwood at The Shawhan for the Alzheimer’s Association. This donation brings the amount raised for the Jazz Brunch hosted by Elmwood at The Shawhan to $3,098.50.

The annual Jazz Brunch fundraiser initially raised $1,549.25 for the Alzheimer’s Association of North West Ohio.

Each year since 1999, Elmwood has sponsored fundraisers such as the annual Tee-Off Alzheimer’s Golf Scramble, card parties, bake sales and bowling tournaments. To this point, Elmwood has raised and donated more than $58,000 to the Alzheimer’s Association.

As a fraternal financial services organization, Modern Woodmen encourages its members to serve as community volunteers, and each year members participate in hundreds of matching fund projects across the country.

Rebecca Shank wrote the grant and submitted the information to Modern Woodmen for this matching funds grant.

Tuesdays are ‘rocking’ at T-SPL

The junior department at Tiffin-Seneca Public Library is to host Rocking Tuesdays as part of the 2018 summer reading program, “Libraries Rock!”

The next event is at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the library, 77 Jefferson St.

The event is to feature “Shapes, Weave and Sew.”

Attendees can stop in and weave a rainbow fish, sew a foam star and create shapes on sticky paper.

Cartoonist to visit Tiffin library

The junior summer reading program, “Libraries Rock!,” is to feature cartoonist Jeff Nicholas for “Rockin’ the Toons” at 2 p.m. July 20 in the Frost Kanow Room of Tiffin-Seneca Public Library, 77 Jefferson St.

Tween book club to meet at T-SPL

Foundation Speakers event announced

Author of “Dreamland: The True Tale of America’s Opiate Epidemic” Sam Quinones is to headline Tiffin-Seneca Public Library’s second annual Foundation Speakers event at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 at Tiffin Middle School, 103 Shepherd Drive.

“Dreamland” is the story of how the unfettered prescribing of pain medications and an influx of black tar heroin led to the opiate epidemic that is ravaging the United States.

University of Iowa graduates

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa has announced students who earned degrees during the 2018 spring commencement ceremonies.

Local students who earned degrees include Nicholas Huffmon of Tiffin, juris degree – law with distinction; and Jason Clinger of Upper Sandusky, master’s degree in occupational and environmental health.

According to Metal Construction News Magazine, Clouse Construction Corp., a design build general contractor located in New Riegel, has been ranked No. 2 in Ohio and No. 28 in the United States for being a Top Pre-Engineered Metal Builder in 2017.

Clouse Construction is a local design build general contractor and construction manager with area projects using pre-engineered steel buildings which include Taiho Corp., Arnold Machine, American Fine Sinter, Webster Manufacturing, and Tiffin Aire in Tiffin; Rowmark, Hamlet Protein and The University of Findlay Student Union in Findlay; and Good Shepherd Home, Mennel Mill, Roppe Rubber and NOX, formerly Atlas Crankshaft, in Fostoria.
