Owens hosts spring plant sale
PERRYSBURG – Owens Community College Landscape Turfgrass Crew Club is to host its annual spring plant sale 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday on the Toledo campus located on Oregon road in Perrysburg.
All proceeds from the plant sale are to go toward the organization’s participation in the annual Professional Land Care Network student career days.

FREMONT – The Ohio Small Business Development Center at Terra State Community College is to offer free, two-hour seminars, “Small Business Basics.”

Students recognized at Terra
FREMONT – Terra State Community College honored students during the third annual Student Recognition Dinner April 22.
The local students honored were Tiffany Kiesel of Tiffin, Robert Pocock of Clyde, Matthew Sallee of Tiffin, and Connie Menard of Clyde and Pam Aldrich of Clyde, Perseverance Award; Michele Upton of Bellevue, Community Service Award; Morgan Salyer of Bellevue, All-Ohio Academic; Shawn Boller of Mount Gilead and Josh Thacker of Tiffin, All-Ohio Academic Team; Brandon Beining of Fostoria, Slayer and Upton, Rotary Students of the Year.
Scholarships awarded to local students
SANDUSKY – Twenty-three Firelands Regional Medical Center School of Nursing students were recently awarded scholarships.
Local scholarship recipients include Leah Wade of Bellevue, $2,800; Lindsay Reinhart of Tiffin, $2,800; Jessica Boareman of Bellevue, $2,000; Bailty Weber of Bellevue, $2,000; Amanda Reinhart of New Riegel, $2,000; Christina Tanna of Bellevue, $1,000; Danielle Pual of Clyde, $1,000; and Stephanie Burdette of Clyde, $2,500.
Tiffin native on honor roll
SANDUSKY – Mykel Weber of Tiffin was named to the honor roll at Firelands Regional Medical Center School of Nursing for the fall semester.
TU dean speaks on webinar program
Tiffin University Dean James Padilla participated in the webinar presentation, “CMS LEAPT Driver Even: Failure to Rescue,” as a guest speaker.
Students inducted to honor society
Tiffin University’s National Communication Association chapter, Lamba Pi Eta inducted three students April 22.
Those students are Genova Darby, Scott Spangler and Shelli Smith.
Heidelberg band performs with local students
The 43-member Symphonic Band from Heidelberg University performed its spring concert on April 26 with a theme of “We Come from a Land Down Under.”
Local students that performed were Megan Shock of Old Fort; Sharah Semer of Tiffin; Benjamin Wadsworth of Clyde; and Hennessy Phillip of Tiffin.
Scholarship opportunity for military children
The Folds of Honor Foundation is offering educational scholarships for children and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled while serving.
Eligible applicants must be the spouse or dependent of a service member killed in action or killed in the line of duty; a current service member who was wounded in action or in the line of duty and has been awarded a Purple Heart medal; military veteran who has a service-connected disability; a military veteran who died of any cause after being classified as having a service-connected disability.
Applicants can apply for either immediate-use scholarships or future-use scholarships.
The online application deadline is April 30.
