Owens Corning plans major plant expansion

Owens Corning announced a 15,000-square-foot expansion to its Tiffin facility Monday.

Katie Lang, communications coordinator for Seneca Industrial and Economic Development Corp., said the industrial facility, currently 60 square feet, at 145 Heritage Drive in Northstar Industrial Park  produces insulation for appliance manufacturers.

She said the expansion will add warehouse space in the company’s main facility.

According to a SIEDC release, the expansion is under way and is expected to be complete by Feb. 1.

Lang said the expansion is not expected to create any jobs. The company has about 85 employees, the release states.

To support the expansion, a 15-year, 100-percent Community Reinvestment Area tax exemption is to be provided by the city of Tiffin, pending city action.

The release states property owners in the industrial park and Tiffin representatives have approved the project.

Tiffin Mayor Aaron Montz said he was pleased with the news.

“Manufacturing is the No. 1 employer in the Tiffin area,” he said in the release. “Further investment like this continues to strengthen it. We are pleased to see our economic development momentum continue.”
