Findlay Sears store to close its doors

In mid-April, the Sears store in Findlay is to close.

According to a press release from Howard Riefs, director of corporate communications for Sears Holdings, a liquidation sale at the location began Friday, and the closing resulted from the store’s lease not being renewed.

The release stated such closures are “part of a series of actions to reduce on-going expenses,” and will enable Sears to better “focus our investments on serving our customers and members.”

Riefs said the Findlay Sears store has 54 employees, most of whom are part-time/hourly and eligible associates “will receive severance and have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Sears or Kmart stores.”

He said the Tiffin Sears location and the Kmart in Fostoria will not be impacted by the closing.

Logan Kirby, manager of Sears in Tiffin, and a spokesperson for the Findlay Sears store declined to comment.
