Eatery opens in Fostoria
FOSTORIA – An eclectic blend of Mexican and American food is on the menu at Hank & Jesse’s, 224 N. Main St., Fostoria.
The new restaurant, which opened in May and celebrated a grand opening June 20, is co-owned by Jesse Garcia and Hank Elchert. Garcia said the idea for the business originated with the small taco shops that are operated in Texas and other locations.
“I always wanted to open a restaurant in Fostoria,” he said, and his Mexican-inspired menu was merged with Elchert’s American flair to create Hank & Jesse’s.
Garcia said he and Elchert brought their own recipes and menu ideas to the restaurant. Elchert’s signature dishes, he said, include pink meatloaf and a potato salad recipe that has been handed down through generations of the Elchert family. Garcia said a specialty item of his creation is a pork dish with special seasoning that is served with pineapple.
To keep an emphasis on high-quality menu items, Garcia said Hank & Jesse’s uses mostly steak and chicken in its recipes, and little hamburger meat. All of the meat used by the restaurant is from local sources, he said, and many other ingredients also are bought locally.
Garcia said prices at Hank and Jesses are reasonable, allowing customers to enjoy the restaurant despite a tough economy. Since opening, he said, business has been steady.
Changes, additions and events at Hank & Jesse’s, Garcia said, also will depend on the economy, and may include outdoor concerts. Now, the restaurant offers an ice cream soda shop and an “all you can eat” nacho bar Fridays.
Hank & Jesse’s is in the middle of downtown Fostoria, which Garcia said is a convenient central location that allows for local and highway access. So far, he said, most of the restaurant’s customers have been local residents.
Garcia said a website for Hank & Jesse’s is in development, and the restaurant has a Facebook page, where customers can stay current with the restaurant’s specials, menu and other news.
