‘Coupon Lady’ tops St. Francis April events
St. Francis plans a variety of event for April at its campus on St. Francis Avenue.
Yoga will be at 6 p.m. Tuesdays and 5:15-6:15 p.m. Wednesdays at St. Francis Spirituality Center, 200 St. Francis Ave. No registration or experience required. Extra mats are available. Joni Meyer-Crothers, the “Coupon Lady,” is to speak at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the St. Francis Home Chapel, 182 St. Francis Ave. The free presentation explains how to save money and how to “pay it forward” as well.
Conversations about faith are set for 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday and April 20 at St. Francis Spirituality Center first floor lounge. “No Hopes Barred” is an informal gathering where matters of faith can be freely discussed and explored. Participants bring their topics of interest. Although the faith lens will be primarily Roman Catholic, all faith traditions are welcome. An Alzheimer’s support group is to meet 7-8 p.m. April 13 at St. Francis Home multipurpose room, 182 St. Francis Ave. The group’s purpose is to provide educational and social opportunities and an avenue for group sharing for persons who are coping with a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia. Come and See Weekend with the Sisters of St. Francis is set for April 22- 23. Learn more about St. Francis and Clare of Assisi and their amazing journey into the heart of God. See how the Tiffin Franciscans carry on that spirit today. Join the sisters and associates for discussion, prayer, meals and relaxation to get a feel for their way of life. This invitation is for Catholic single women 18 years and older who are considering a call to religious life and for men and women who want to explore the associate life. Celebrate Earth Day 1-4 p.m. April 23 at the Franciscan Earth Literacy Center, 194 St. Francis Ave. Games, healthy snacks, nature hikes, recycled crafts/obstacle course, seed planting, soil activities, a tour of the straw bale house, wagon rides and water quality monitoring are scheduled, all for free. There also will be tree climbing provided by Hetzel Tree Service. Children must wear tennis shoes and long pants to participate. A 50/50 raffle is planned.
A guided retreat titled “Assisi Within” is set for April 23-29 at St. Francis Spirituality Center. The retreat is meant for those who have been to Assisi, Italy and those who have not. Participants are to visit the special places in the lives of Francis and Clare, participate in rituals that reinforce the movement of God the early Franciscans experienced, and share insights and reflections. A program called St. Francis Community Education Series: Legacy Planning (Seminar 1) is planned at St. Francis Convent Library 5:30-7:30 p.m. April 27. Learn about gift options that allows provisions for family and a charity. Creating a lasting tribute is a discussion about honoring someone special with a memorial or tribute in their name such as through retirement assets, life insurance or insurance annuities. Beneficiary designations can be modified at any time to meet changing needs. Presenter is Lee Martin, retired college development officer. Light hors d’ouvres are to be served.
