Start Advent with quiet evening at St.?Joseph

The Rev. Eric Culler is the featured speaker for “Advent by Candlelight” at 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the Upper Room of St. Joseph Activity Center. His program is “Simplify Christmas, Celebrate Christ.” Those attending are asked to bring a dessert to share. Half of the offering is to be donated to the Sharing Kitchen in memory of Deacon Dan Scherger. Choose open seating or reserved seating. Holiday show planned

Advent retreats offered

“Waiting with Mary,” a mini-retreat, is to take place 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Dec. 12 at St. Francis Spirituality Center. Leading the retreat is Linda Haas, MPS Educator and Spiritual Leader. Heidelberg music majors to perform at Christmas concert

Three music majors of Heidelberg University are to be guest performers at Maple City Church of God in Norwalk during the third annual guest Christmas concert to begin at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 18.

Nick Saxton (vocals), Stephen Smith (piano) and Hanna Mathias-(voice/ukulele) are to perform a variety of classical selections, along with traditional Christmas memories.

A light reception is to be hosted following the performance.

Ecumenical Christmas concert planned at Carey shrine

The 44th Carey Ecumenical Christmas Concert is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation, 315 Clay St., Carey. The choir is co-directed by Jack Gerding and Patricia Murphy, and Joy Orians and Ruth Coldwell are to be the accompanists.

This year’s choir is made up of 100 singers from northwest and central Ohio. Music for this year’s concert includes traditional melodies along with newly composed contemporary works. An offering is to be collected during the concert to support the ministry of the choir, and the Shrine Cafeteria is to be open for dinner following the concert.

Live Nativity at St. Francis

Journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem as St. Francis presents its annual live Nativity 6:30-8 p.m. Dec. 6. Participants should park behind St. Francis Home and meet with guides to begin the walk. Wear comfortable shoes and warm clothing. New scarves, hats, gloves and socks are to be collected for those in need.
