Men’s Bible study this morning

Grace Baptist Church has started a new topic for its men’s Saturday Breakfast Bible Study, which meets at 8-9:30 a.m. today.

The new session is a video series and discussion, “The Dawning, Christianity in the Roman Empire, with Joe Stowell.”

40 Days of Life to be observed

Ash Wednesday next week marks the beginning of Lent. Catholics also are observing 40 Days of Life during the Lenten season.

Masses at St. Joseph, St. Mary and St. Pius X are to have a pro-life theme today and Sunday.

Good Friday choir in formation

CAREY – The ecumenical choir for Good Friday, Adoramus, is looking for singers, high school age and older, to perform a musical reflection at noon April 18 in the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey.

Rehearsals continue at 1 p.m. Sunday in the choir loft of the church. Additional rehearsals are at 1 p.m. March 23 and 30 and April 6 and 13.

Breakfast buffet to be served

CAREY – The cafeteria at Our Lady of Consolation Shrine in Carey is to serve an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday.

The cost is $7.50 for adults and $4 for children ages 6-12; those 5 and younger are free.

Plan now for Women A.C.T.

The annual Women A.C.T. Conference is slated for April 5, and registrations are being accepted. The theme for 2014 is “Under His Wings,” based on “Psalm 91:4. The event is to take place at Camden Falls Reception and Conference Center, 2460 SR 231.

The featured speaker is Deborah Lovett from the Dayton area. Sarah Baumgardner of Huron is to provide music and Raylene Hlavaty of Ashland is to portray composer Fannie Crosby as the special feature.

The cost, which includes a lunch, is $25 if paid by March 27. After that, the cost is $27.

Speaker to stress chastity during March 17 appearance at Calvert

For their senior service project, four Calvert seniors are bringing Jason Evert to Tiffin for a presentation at 11:30 a.m. March 17 in the school gym.

A Catholic chastity speaker, Evert has spoken on numerous TV broadcasts and at youth gatherings. His talk is free. Part of Evert’s fee has been obtained, but donations are being accepted to cover the balance.

Conferences to focus on married couples March 22 in Bellevue

BELLEVUE – Sorrowful Mother Shrine, SR 269, south of Bellevue, is inviting married couples of all ages and faiths to attend two marriage conferences and group discussions 1-4 p.m. March 22.

One session is to deal with good communication techniques and the second is about conflict resolution. Questions are welcome.

The Rev. Harold Brown is to present the program in the Pilgrim Center at no charge. Spouses also may come alone.

Lenten services set for six Fridays

Community Lenten services, sponsored by Seneca County Ministerial Association, are set for noon on consecutive Fridays from March 14 to April 18.

Worship and a light lunch are planned at the following churches: March 14, The Salvation Army; March 21, Faith United Methodist Church; March 28, Trinity United Church of Christ; April 4, First Lutheran Church; April 11, The Salvation Army; and April 18, First Presbyterian Church (no lunch).

Bake sale today, Sunday features soft pretzels, homemade chips

CAREY – The Our Lady of Consolation National Shrine volunteer bakery is to have a bake sale 4-7 p.m. today and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday in the OLC information booth.

Featured items include soft pretzels for $1. Other items include pizzas, homemade potato chips, several kinds of bread and coffee cakes, an assortment of pies, candy, noodles and cookies.

Proceeds are to benefit Shrine projects.

Catholic teens with questions to get outlet Sunday in Fostoria

St. Wendelin Parish and School’s Discernment Group is planning a three-part series to begin 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Flippin’ Jimmy’s, 118 W. North St., Fostoria.

Do you know a high school student who has a lot of questions? Are they asking questions about the Catholic church? Discernment Group, made of high school-aged students from St. Wendelin Parish and school, is hosting “Crazy Catholic Questions.” It is an opportunity for students to learn about the myths and misconceptions concerning where the Catholic church stands on important topics.

The first topic is “Exorcism & Angels.” The other two topics – “Let’s Talk About Sex” and “Appearances of Mary & Miracles” – are to be presented 6:30-8:30 p.m. March 16 and April 6 at locations to be determined.
