The Salvation Army, 505 E. Market St., Tiffin, has planned two special events, according to Capt. PB Stetser, commanding officer.
A Community Thank You is set for 11 a.m. Sunday. A catered lunch is to be served at 12:30 p.m., followed by a short program. The program is to recognize the volunteers and businesses that helped The Salvation Army strive toward the goal of raising $35,000 during the 2013 Red Kettle Drive. Stetser is to announce the actual total raised. Guests also are invited to see the new chapel. Football fans can participate in The Salvation Army’s Super Bowl party, starting at 6 p.m. Feb. 2. Those who attend can watch the game on a big-screen TV, play board and video games, learn crafts, surf the Internet, win prizes and eat food. Admission is a two-liter bottle of soda and a snack.
Sing a Gospel song
Gospel singing is planned for the first three weekends in February at Shooey’s Cool Creation Restaurant, 706 S. Sandusky St., Tiffin:

Food, football, fundraising set for Feb. 1-2 in Carey
CAREY – The Our Lady of Consolation National Shrine volunteer bakery, under the direction of Father Paul Faroh, is to have a Super Bowl weekend bake sale 4-7 p.m. Feb. 1 and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Feb. 2 in the OLC information booth. Featured items for the sale include meat lovers’ pizza along with other pizzas; homemade potato chips; multi-grain, Italian wheat and raisin bread; doughnuts; three flavors of coffee cakes; an assortment of pies; marshmallow candy and assorted cookies. All proceeds are to go toward the OLC Shrine projects.
Visit the Holy Land
Sister Paulette Schroeder, OSF, of Tiffin, is to lead a group trip to the West Bank May 5-16, in collaboration with Siraj, a Christian Palestinian tour group. Schroeder spent three years in the Israel/Palestine as a member of Christian Peacemaker Teams. She is the coordinator of Project Peace in Tiffin.
The group of up to 10 people is to visit and meet with Jewish and Palestinian Muslims and Christian organizations, dine with their families and stay in their homes and in hostels to achieve a better understanding of the conflict between Palestine and Israel.
The travelers also are to visit holy sites in Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Hebron. The cost of the trip is estimated to be $2,500-$2,800, including airfare. For more details, contact Schroeder at (419) 447-0435, ext. 136.
Marathoners can help Catholic Charities
TOLEDO-Catholic Charities Diocese of Toledo is seeking walkers and runners of all ages, skill levels and faiths to participate in a charity team at the 2014 Medical Mutual Glass City Marathon. Team members would raise money for Catholic Charities’ ministries in northwest Ohio, which include a soup kitchen, food pantries, family shelters, budgeting assistance and jail and prison ministry. An informational team kick-off meeting is set for 7-8 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Catholic Center, 1933 Spielbusch Ave., Toledo.
Catholic Charities is an official charity partner with the Glass City Marathon for a second consecutive year. Team members may walk or run the race of their choice April 27 at the Glass City Marathon. The team’s goal is to raise $50,000 as part of the Catholic Charities’ 100th anniversary celebrations. The agency’s ministries serve 51,000 people of all faiths in 19 counties of northwest Ohio.
