Fishing, hunting licenses on sale

COLUMBUS — Hunters and anglers can purchase 2019-20 fishing and hunting licenses, as 2018 licenses have expired.

Purchases can be made at wildohio.gov and at hundreds of participating agents, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Licenses also are available for purchase on many mobile devices.

A purchasing system launched two years ago groups licenses and permits by category. Anyone with an online account can go to wildohio.gov and obtain a free reprint of a valid license or permit. This option is not available at participating agents.

Resident fishing and hunting licenses cost $19 each, unchanged from last year. Hunting licenses are valid upon purchase through Feb. 28, 2020. New this year, Ohio’s annual fishing licenses are valid for 365 days from the date of purchase.

Residents also have the option of buying multi-year licenses, and people may choose from three-year, five-year, 10-year and lifetime plans.

People interested in purchasing a lifetime license may apply online or at any of the Division of Wildlife’s five district offices or headquarters in Columbus. Locations of ODNR Division of Wildlife offices can be found at wildohio.gov. Lifetime licenses cannot be purchased at license agent locations at this time.

For the 2019-20 license year, a non-resident hunting or apprentice hunting license will increase to $180.96. Non-resident white-tailed deer permits will increase to $76.96. A non-resident fishing license will increase to $50.96.

Starting in January, a Lake Erie permit ($11) now is required for non-residents to fish Ohio waters of Lake Erie from Jan. 1-April 30 each year.

Castalia trout fishing lottery taking entries

COLUMBUS — Trout fishing opportunities at Cold Creek, one of Ohio’s most unique streams, await fishing enthusiasts who enter and are drawn in a lottery conducted by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

A half-mile section of the creek, located at the Castalia State Fish Hatchery in Erie County, is to be open to a limited number of anglers on selected dates between May 3 and Nov. 29.

Interested anglers should submit an application and a non-refundable $3 application fee before March 31 to be eligible for the random drawing. Applications may be completed online at wildohio.gov or by calling (800) WILDLIFE (945-3543) to obtain a paper form, which must be returned via mail. Only one application is allowed per person.

An adult season is to take place May 3-Nov. 29 and a youth season June 10-Aug. 9. Morning and afternoon slots are being filled on Fridays in May and June for adult events and during all youth event dates. Applicants of the youth lottery must be between the ages of 4 and 15 when they apply.

About 100 adult and 90 youth permits are to be issued. Individuals selected can take along two adults and three youths younger than age 16. Participation is determined by a computer-generated random drawing in early April.

Fishing licenses are required for ages 16 and older.
