Family Fest to feature science theme with exhibits, experiments

Science is the topic of this year’s Tiffin Family Fest at Tiffin Community YMCA. The event is to take place 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the YMCA, 180 Summit St.

Associate Executive Director Jillian Shaferly said this annual family-oriented community event includes kid-friendly games, activities, crafts, prizes and food, Safety City, inflatables, face painting, music and door prizes.

“Everything will have a science twist to it,” Shaferly said.

New this year, to take on the theme, is a student science fair exhibit and science experiments demonstrated by the Franciscan Earth Literacy Center and the Chemistry Club from Heidelberg University.

Science fair judging is to take place at 10:30 a.m., Shaferly said. Prizes are to be given to those who win in their age groups.

The YMCA pool also is to be open 1-2 p.m. for free swim. Also, the YMCA is to show a movie in the pool.

“We want a reason to bring people in and stay,” she said. “This is going to be really interactive for kids. Expect an educational spin on fun. That is our goal, to just have fun.”
