Heartbeat Hope Medical to offer parenting classes in ’18

The Heartbeat Hope Medical office in Tiffin is launching a new parenting program in the new year to help attendees be more effective parents.

The program, Foundations for Positive Parenting, is to start Jan. 8, Jessica Barnes, bridges coordinator for Heartbeat Hope Medical, said.

Barnes, who is to be the facilitator for the program, said she saw an increasing need for more education and supplies for parents in Seneca County.

Barnes said her main goal for the program is to provide as much education as she can.

“Education is so important,” she said, “whether you’re a stable parent or one who is struggling.”

As a volunteer, Barnes said, she sat in on bridging classes and said she took away much.

“This is just another way to be a good, effective parent,” she said.

Within the program are to be three, six-week sessions that meet twice a month. They are to focus on a main topic. Those interested are able to sign up for sessions they find to be most helpful. Topics include milestones, interaction with your child, understanding child development, child safety and discipline, and time management and life skills.

According to Barnes, those who sign up for the program will have ways to earn items they may need for their child, age 18 months or younger. Items include diapers, wipes, soaps and clothing.

As for the community, she said, “I just want them to know we are here.”

“We are here to help when the unexpected hits and for the community to see us as a friend and kind,” Barnes said. “I want to just see parents be more engaged in their children’s lives. It is what is missing in the world.”
