More than 150 local children are to participate in Dance Unlimited’s 33rd annual year-end recital, “I Could Have Danced All Night,” this weekend at The Ritz Theatre.

The program includes 30 routines with students dancing to a variety of music, from classical to contemporary. The audience will see ballet, jazz, tap, modern dance and hip hop. Dance Unlimited director Cynthia Weaver calls the recital the “best-kept secret in the arts in Tiffin.”

Nine graduating seniors are to give their final performances during the recital. The girls include Allison Arnold, Kaitlyn Boehler, Kendra Bosse, Ceci Burtis, Taylor Dilley, Emily Eichhorn, Emily Ferstler, Veronica Kirkpatrick and Fran Scholl.

Boehler, Burtis and Ferstler also served as instructors this year. Additional instructors are Brooklyn Boehler, Nicki Brose, Lea Frank, Brianna Gaietto, Taylor Johnson, Kathy Miller, Ali Reese, Heather Schalk, Seth Sholl and Julie Webb.

Dance Unlimited was founded by Mary Jo Murray in 1981 at Heidelberg University. It has operated continuously since. Its current director moved the studio to the Tiffin Mall with 27 class periods each week. Most classes have a teaching assistant to help the instructors. In addition to lessons for youth, adults can take Zumba and yoga classes with certified and trained instructors.

“Over the years, Dance Unlimited’s philosophy has always been to instill in each of its students the joy of dancing. It prides itself on teaching impeccable technique in a nurturing, supportive atmosphere,” Weaver said. “We have students who want to continue to dance in college or professionally, but we also have many students who dance just because they like it.”

Weaver expressed appreciation to the more than 75 parents and alumni who volunteered their time to supervise the students and assist backstage with warm-ups. The director said some families have multiple children in the classes, and some students take more than one kind of instruction.

Summer activities are about to begin at Dance Unlimited. Zumba is set for 5:30-6:30 p.m. Mondays, starting June 16. No dance experience is needed. New pre-ballet students can register for classes 10-11 a.m. Monday through Thursday July 7-10 and 14-17. The advanced ballet classes are to meet 9-10:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday July 7-10 and 14-17.
