Instructor premieres piece from student
Heidelberg violin instructor Ioana Galu (right) poses with Kyle Sherepita, a Heidelberg senior from Brunswick. Galu commissioned Sherepita to write a composition for solo violin, and she premiered the piece Sunday at her faculty recital in Brenneman Music Hall. Sherepita called the piece “Senryu,” which also is a Japanese poetry form.
Although Sherepita’s main instrument is saxophone, he has been studying violin with Galu for more than two years. When she asked him to write something for her, he was “more honored than anything.” Sherepita said she gave him many suggestions for the composition and helped him edit the piece. After hearing “Senryu” at the recital, he said it was “even better than I imagined it.”
April 27 is the date for Sherepita’s senior composition recital.
