Gallery offering crafty classes
Tiffin Art Guild is taking registration for new spring art classes. The following classes are to take place at the TAG gallery, 178 S. Washington St.
Fused Glass – Open Studio, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.
Instructor Jill Groves is to offer instruction, advice, equipment and kiln firing for a piece of fused glass art. Participants age 16 and older can work on any fused glass project requiring one or two firings. Glass may be purchased by individuals or from Groves at a reduced price. She requests a call at (419) 902-7966 prior to the class in case glass needs to be ordered.
No previous fusing experience is necessary and all materials are included. The cost is $25 for members; $30 non-members. Eight is the maximum class size.
Greeting Cards, 1-4 p.m. Saturday.
Joan Ledwedge has made greeting cards for friends and family for years and wants to share the craft of creating original greeting cards. Her methods utilize a die cutting method and creative techniques for using different colors, patterns, shapes and ink. Participants of high school age and older can make about five cards.
Ten is the maximum class size. All supplies are included. The cost is $20 for TAG members and $30 for non-members.
Pysanky Eggs, 6 p.m., April 1.
Ann Reddy-Damon is to guide participants in making pysanka, or Ukranian Easter eggs. Traditionally made only at Easter, pysanky now are made year-long by people of varying skill levels all over the world.
Limited to 15 participants age 18 and older, this class is expected to fill up quickly. The cost is $20 for TAG members and $30 non-members. Supplies are included.
Beginning Glass Fusing – Jewelry, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. April 5 and 10-11 a.m. April 12.
Taught by Jill Groves, this two-part class for those age 12 and older is to cover the basics of layering glass and fusing it in a kiln. Each student will make a combination of two pieces of jewelry. All instruction, equipment and materials are included.
During the first class, students will learn about types of art glass, kilns, equipment, effects of heat on the glass, etc. Glass-cutting skills also are to be practiced. The remainder of this class is spent selecting, cutting and layering glass for wearable art. The second class is to add bails or earring wires, posts, clips, etc., to complete the jewelry.
The cost is $40 for members and $45 non-members. Eight is the maximum class size.
Fused Glass – Wall Pocket Project, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. May 10.
Instructor Jill Groves will help participants age 12 and older to create a beautiful fused glass wall pocket. The class includes all instruction, equipment, materials and kiln firing. Several colors and patterns are to be available or participants can bring an original design to use.
This class is geared to all skill levels. No previous fusing experience is necessary. The cost is $35 for members and $40 non-members. Eight is the maximum class size.
Your New Camera, 6-8 p.m. April 15.
This class is for those using only the “auto” setting of their new cameras. Photographer Rob Ledwedge will help individuals take charge of the dials, numbers and settings of their cameras.
Participants of high school age and older should bring the manuals for their cameras. Class size is a maximum of 25. TAG members are free; $5 for non-members.
Daddy and Me – Polymer Clay, 10-11:30 a.m., April 26.
Jillian Ledwedge is leading this class for children grade 2 and older to make something for Mother’s Day with Dad’s help. Students can learn a basic method of working with polymer clay to make a bunny figurine. Treats are to be served while the sculptures harden in the oven.
Maximum class size is 12. All supplies are included. The cost is $10 for TAG members and $15 non-members.
Basic Digital Photography, 6-7:30 p.m. May 14, 21 and 28.
Photographer Rob Ledwedge is to discuss not only beginning photography techniques, but also the basic operation of digital cameras. This is a great class for those who want to know how to capture a better image. Participants of high school age and older can leave the class feeling more confident and creative with their photography skills.
Home projects are to be assigned outside of the three classes. The maximum class size is 15. The cost is $30 for TAG members; $40 non-members.
