OSU football tickets prizes in Pantry Plus raffle

FOSTORIA – Pantry Plus of Seneca County is conducting a raffle for Ohio State University football tickets or a basket of OSU merchandise. The drawing is set for 7:30 p.m. Aug. 21 in Tiffin Mall’s bingo hall. Tickets cost $5 each, three for $10 or seven for $20.

Based in Fostoria, Pantry Plus has been able to give food assistance to 557 households during the first six months of 2013. That includes 243 senior citizens (age 60 and older),789 adults (ages 18-59), 455 children (age infant-17) for a total of 1,487 people.

The food bank also administers a monthly box program for seniors, and that program has helped 450 senior households so far this year. More than 37,000 pounds – that’s more than 16 tons – of food have been given distributed, according to the Pantry Plus director, John Sherer. Last year at Thanksgiving and again at Christmas, the agency gave away hundreds of bags of food with all the trimmings including chickens, turkeys and hams.

“It takes a lot of money to keep up with this amount of food, and that’s why we have food drives and fundraisers like the OSU football raffle and why we accept cash donations,” Sherer said. “With the recent Pantry Plus changeover from being a box pantry to a choice pantry, our clients are finding that coming to a food pantry is a much more enjoyable experience. Now, they have an opportunity to pick and choose the items they need instead of accepting a pre-packaged box of items that someone picked out for them.”

All profits from the OSU raffle are to be used to buy additional food for the pantry, so all funds collected stay in Seneca County to help neighbors and friends who may be struggling.

Raffle tickets may be purchased by sending a check or money order to Pantry Plus of Seneca County, 115 S. Main St., Fostoria, OH 44830; by emailing jsherer@pantry

plus.org; or by calling Margaret at (419) 937-3924 and leaving a message with name, phone number and the number of tickets needed. The tickets will be hand-delivered to the buyers. The drawing is set for 7:30 p.m. Aug. 21 at the bingo hall. The winners, if not present, are to be notified by phone.
