Golf scramble to honor local teen
The second annual “Swing for a Cure for Alex” is planned Aug. 17 at Seneca Hills Golf Course.
The golf scramble is named for Alex Sendelbach, a 13-year-old Mohawk Local Schools student who has mitochondrial disease. This condition causes seizures, developmental delays, lack of growth and other symptoms. The Sendelbach family organized the outing as a benefit for United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation, which sponsors research, education and awareness.
Prizes are to be awarded for first-, second- and third-place, as well as door prizes. A new feature this year is hole-in-one prizes sponsored by Baumann Auto Group. A hole-in-one on the 18th hole is to receive $10,000 toward the purchase of a new automobile. The best-dressed golfer also is to receive a prize.
Check-in opens at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8:30.
The cost is $50 or $200 for a four-person team, which includes golf, a cart and lunch. The registration deadline is July 29. Individuals and businesses can sponsor a hole for $50.
