Hayes Center to host concert for holiday

FREMONT – Celebrate the holiday Thursday as the Toledo Symphony Concert Band presents its Independence Day Concert 2-3:30 p.m. at Hayes Presidential Center in Fremont.

This annual event includes Civil War re-enactors firing cannons as the band plays the “1812 Overture.”

A refreshment stand is to be open with snacks and drinks for sale.

Senior Day to take Western theme

Seneca County Commission on Aging is inviting senior citizens to its annual Senior Day at Somerset Reception Center.

The event is to run 10 a.m.-1 p.m. July 10 with a “Wild West” theme.

meeting, awards

FREMONT – The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Seneca, Sandusky and Wyandot counties is to host its 2013 Walk Awards and annual meeting July 15 in the large shelter house at Conner Park, Fremont.

Bring a covered dish and a drink for the 6 p.m. potluck, followed by the meeting and awards at 7 p.m.

NAMI members are invited to attend and elect new members to the Board of Trustees. Expired memberships can be renewed at the meeting or by visiting or calling the office at (888) 582-8889.

Learn to paint at TAG

Tiffin Art Guild still has openings for its summer art classes at the Tiffin Art Guild Gallery, 178 S. Washington St.

“Do a Van Gogh!” is the title of a class by Jon Adams. It is to run 6-10 p.m. July 10, 17 and 24.

Students of any skill level are to paint an 11- by 14-inch acrylic or oil painting of Van Gogh’s “Cypresses With Two Women” in the manner and style of Vincent Van Gogh.

Cost is $35 for members and $45 for non-members, which includes canvas. Acrylic paints are available, but students are asked to bring their own oils.

Artists of all levels can create an abstract painting 6-9:30 p.m. Aug. 14. Instructor Judy Downey is to teach using oils, but students may use oil paints or acrylic.

Students are to bring up to 10 pictures each of architectural subjects and any other picture they desire to be the focus subject matter. Students can bring their own materials and supplies or Downey is to provide them.

The fee is $25 for TAG members and $35 for non-members.
