Historic Trust bringing back teas

The Tiffin Historic Trust is bringing back its elegant, Victorian-style teas for 2013.

The season is to begin with “A Music Tea” April 20. The Woodwind Trio from Heidelberg University, featuring Mackenzie Honaker and Morgan LaFlure on flute and Morgan Mabry on clarinet, is to perform brief works by Mozart, Haydn and Martini.

The teas are to include homemade delicacies such as fancy sandwiches, pastries, fruit and candy, as well as two kinds of tea.

Hosted by Tiffin Historic Trust volunteers, all of the Victorian Teas are to be at 12:30 p.m. Saturdays at the Grammes-Brown House, 172 Jefferson St.

Guests are welcome to tour the Victorian-era home containing original belongings of the Grammes and Brown families, including the china table settings used for the teas. The Trust’s members spent several years restoring the red brick home, bequeathed to the Tiffin Historic Trust by Rosina Brown in 1989.

The next tea is June 22, at which participants may learn about the history of teas while they enjoy the traditional hot beverage. The accompanying treats are prepared by the volunteers under the direction of Karin Brown, locally known for her skills as a German cook and baker.

“The Garden Tea” July 20 is to feature the gardens of the Grammes-Brown House property. In addition to viewing the collections inside the home, guests may learn about and then tour the plantings surrounding the Historic Trust’s headquarters.

The final event of the summer season is “Rosina’s Birthday Tea” Aug. 17. The tea committee members have chosen to express the trust’s appreciation of its benefactor by celebrating her birthday with a special program to commemorate the event.

Due to limited space, reservations are required, and there is a $20 fee per participant.
