Improving the view

Posey Excavating of Bascom began demolition of the Codding building on South Poplar Street in Fostoria last week, according to Ellen Gatrell of the Fostoria Railroad Preservation Society. Owned by the Fostoria Economic Development Corp., the building is adjacent to the site for the proposed rail park. The building’s removal will give rail spectators a better view of the western tracks.

In addition, the FRPS is to host another Railroad Employees Reunion April 25 in St. Wendelin Parish Life Center, 323 N. Wood St., Fostoria. The program speaker is Matt VanHattem, senior editor for Trains magazine. This dinner/program is open to the public. The doors are to open at 5 p.m. with dinner at 6 and the program at 7. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. The menu includes baked steak and gravy, mashed potatoes, vegetable, salad, rolls, dessert and beverages. More information is available on the group’s Facebook page.
