Register for compassion program

Community Hospice Care is to host “Compassion in Action: A Mindful Practice” 10-11:30 a.m. March 20.

The presenter, John Bruna, is to explain how to cultivate compassionate tools to improve the quality and well-being of life for oneself and others. Register for this free event by calling (419) 447-4040 by March 13.

Bascom church plans dinner

BASCOM – A community dinner is to be served 4:30-6 p.m. Saturday at Bascom United Methodist Church.

The dinner is free.

Prom dresses to be given away

FINDLAY – The fifth annual Don’t Stress Over the Dress event is set for 3-9 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at Findlay Village Mall. This effort makes new and gently used prom dresses available to students at no cost.

In 2012, 132 dresses, accessories and other prom items were given away to girls from 40 schools in Ohio.

Speaker to teach genealogy basics

FREMONT – The next meeting of the Sandusky County Kin Hunters will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sandusky Township Hall, SR 19 North, Fremont.

The program will be Henry Timman, speaking on “Beginning Genealogy: Search Your Family Tree.”

VFW to offer breakfast in Clyde

CLYDE – Clyde VFW Post 3343 will be having a monthly breakfast 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday. The cost is $6 for a made-to-order meal that includes eggs, bacon, sausage links or patties, hashbrowns, pancakes, french toast and toast.

Cancer patients can ‘look good’

The American Cancer Society is offering “Look Good, Feel Better” for women in cancer treatment. They are to receive a make-up kit and instructions to combat the appearance-related side effects of radiation and chemotherapy.

The class is set for 2-4 p.m. March 11 in the conference room at Mercy Tiffin Cancer Center, 40 Fair Lane. The class is free but registration is required. Call (800) 227-2345.

Children’s Easter workshop on tap

FOSTORIA – The Fostoria Community Arts Council is offering a free Easter workshop 10 a.m.-noon March 16 for all children grades 1-5 at the 125 S. Main St. office.

Fundraiser to help Carey resident

CAREY – A dinner and auction to benefit Mike Ferrier is planned March 16 at the VFW, 121 E. Findlay St., Carey. The doors are to open at 4 p.m. with serving to start at 5 p.m. and the auction at 7 p.m.

Ferrier is facing surgery for a spinal tumor that could result in permanent physical damage. He is to be treated at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Proceeds from the benefit are to be used for medical and family travel expenses.

The dinner includes spaghetti, salad, bread and dessert for $7. Door prizes are to be awarded and DJ Time Warp is to provide music.

Raffle to support Sycamore community

SYCAMORE – Win a $4,000 cash prize at the Sycamore Businessmen’s Association Reverse Raffle March 16 at the Sycamore Community Center. The doors open at 6 with dinner at 7 p.m.

In addition to the grand prize, 50/50 drawings are to be conducted and door prizes are to be given away.

Only 300 tickets are available at $50 each. One additional meal ticket can be purchased for $10. Dinner and drinks are to be provided, and guests also can bring their own beverages.

Proceeds from the raffle are to benefit Sycamore Community Park and local non-profit organizations.
